Thursdays
Abbotsley
Every year from April to August we run a Thursday evening time trial on the excellent 11.2 mile sporting course affectionately known as ‘Abbo’, which runs through Abbotsley, skirts Gamlingay and returns via Waresley.
Due to some minor road alterations this course will change slightly in the upcoming season (2026) – so watch this space! It does mean that any previous life time bests or last three seasons bests will be null and void however – so it will be all new as of 2026!
Meeting point and start is at the T-Junction to Croxton, a half mile east of Abbotsley.
For those new to time trialling – a time trial is a timed ride where you are competing against yourself as well as other riders. Riders are started at one-minute intervals, and you basically ride as fast as you can around the course, on your own, without drafting other riders.
There is no need to enter in advance – you can just turn up and ride. You don’t need a special TT bike – any road bike will do. Entry for club members is £4 per event, and the entry fee for members of other clubs is £5. If you’re new to time trialling and just fancy a go, feel free to come along and we’ll run you through the basics. If you don’t belong to a cycling club, you can ride one sample time trial, called “Come and Try”.
Every week, your points will go towards the SNCC Handicap Trophy. We have produced the Abottsley TT course guide. although this will be updated once we understand how the course will change.
