The Leon Bradford Shield SNCC Handicap Series and the Ashman TT Trophy

The Leon Bradford Shield SNCC Handicap Series

As well as taking part in the Thursday evening time trial during the summer, you have the opportunity to win the Leon Bradford Shield SNCC Handicap for the season. This series was started in 1983

What is it and how does it work?

In a nutshell it is an award to recognise those who repeatedly improve on their own time. Here is how it works:

  • the first time you turn up to the TT, you set a base time (let’s say 35 minutes). This is now your LTS (last three seasons) personal best time.
  • the next time you turn up, you try and beat said LTS. Let’s say you beat it by 30 seconds. Your new LTS is now 34:30
  • let’s assume that on this day, 9 other riders showed up. They may all be faster than you, but – they only beat their own LTS by say 20 seconds or less. You will receive 10 points, the second best improver on their own LTS gets 9 points etc.
  • These points are added up throughout the season, and the person with the most points wins (that’ll be one of those times where someone new on a road bike beats someone like say Simon Murphy on his TT machine!)

So the trophy rewards frequent participation and personal improvement.

You can find the the full tables of the past 3 seasons below. Please note that 2026 will be different rules as due to the road works the course will change, rendering all past LTS  null and void.

The Ashman TimeTrial Trophy

The Ashman is also held on the Abbo course every year, and has been held there since 1938 (no, not a typo, by some strange coincidence the Ashman dates back to 1938, and the Leon Bradford to 1983).

The Ashman consists of a double Abbo You will have had to participate in at least one Abbo prior to entering so that a handicap time is available (which will be double that time).

There are two trophies available:

  • the fastest scratch time over the two laps of Abbo (introduced in 2014, with an addition for a fastest woman in 2022)
  • the best handicap time (not gender specific)
